Career Spotlight: STNA

Career Spotlight: STNA Have you ever run errands for an elderly neighbor who needed a hand? Helped a friend around the house when they came home from the hospital after surgery? Maybe you stop by your grandparent’s house from time to time, just to check in and make sure they’re on track with their medication schedule. If you enjoy this type of caretaking, then a career as an STNA (State Tested Nursing Assistant) might be a good fit for you.

At AMEA Healthcare, our STNAs are non-medical caretakers that help clients with daily tasks like personal care, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and grocery shopping. Typically, clients are elderly, disabled, or recovering from surgery.

Curious about the perks of working as an STNA?

Check out a few of the job’s many benefits below:

1. Light exposure to the healthcare field

While our SNTAs don’t perform any medical tasks, the position does expose you to some very important aspects of a job in healthcare. Learning how to communicate with patients, developing a caring bedside manner, helping them bathe, dress, and take their medicine on time – these are all skills that will serve you later if you decide to pursue a more advanced medical career.

2. Meaningful connections with patients

The job of an STNA goes beyond just function – it’s also important that patients feel comfortable and secure in your care. As an STNA, you have a great opportunity to put your patients at ease, improve their quality of life, and be a trusted companion and advocate for them, all of which can be incredibly fulfilling.

3. Varied work duties

As an STNA, you’ll be able to work with patients with a wide range of medical backgrounds and individual needs. Your job duties will be different based on their unique care requirements, which means a diverse and exciting work experience for you.

4. Flexible hours and location

STNAs are needed in virtually every location, for every shift. Whether you’re a night owl or an early riser, a city-dweller, or prefer a small town, you’ll be able to find a schedule and locale that works for you.
